Barbara Jean Frieh Brunelle passed peacefully into the next chapter of her eternal life at home on Jan. 14.

She was born on Nov. 4, 1933, in Oak Bluffs, to Mary Shaw Frieh and Eugene Frieh. Barbara grew up on Martha’s Vineyard with her older sister, Janet.

She left the island in 1951, to attend Bridgewater State Teachers College, where she met the love of her life, Thomas Brunelle. They were married for 55 years and together raised a family of seven children. Barbara was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was predeceased by her husband, Tom, and two of her children. She is survived by her older sister, two younger sisters, two younger brothers, three sons, two daughters, their spouses, 20 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren.

Barbara’s love, faith, compassion and positive spirit — both in this life and in her belief in life everlasting — will continue to provide comfort to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and remembered as one of God’s angels here on Earth.

A funeral Mass will be held in her honor at a later date this spring at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Meredith. Details will be announced when available.
