Speare Memorial Hospital’s sleep medicine program reaches 10-year accreditation milestone

PLYMOUTH — The Speare Memorial Hospital Sleep Medicine Program in Plymouth has maintained accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine for 10 consecutive years.

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates the Speare Memorial Hospital Sleep Medicine Program on meeting the rigorous standards required to maintain accreditation for sleep services,” said Dr. Eric J. Olson, president of the AASM. “AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care, giving patients confidence and peace of mind when they seek help for a sleep disorder.”

As an AASM-accredited sleep center, Speare provides diagnostic and therapeutic care for people who have problems related to sleep and alertness. Sleep disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy.

To receive and maintain accreditation for a 10-year period, Speare’s Sleep Medicine Program met or exceeded all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep program’s goals must include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in central New Hampshire.

Speare's Sleep Medicine Program is comprised of both a clinic, where patients are seen by sleep medicine physicians Dr. George Neal or Dr. Michele Gaier, and a private sleep lab for diagnostic testing. Home sleep apnea testing is also provided. Speare is expanding access to their sleep medicine program with a clinic in Meredith, adjacent to MedCheck Urgent Care, in the upcoming months.
