Zonta Club of the Lakes Region will be participating in Laconia’s Multicultural Day on Saturday, which promotes a healthy sharing of ethnic traditions, foods and art forms. Members will be selling purses, obtained through Project Share, on behalf of young Cambodian women who create these as part of their vocational training and to provide income; proceeds will be returned to them.
Upcoming programs include:
Preparing for the Avian Flu: Dispelling the Myths—Knowing the Facts, presented by Margaret Franckhauser, a dynamic speaker who is executive director of Community Health & Hospice. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 5:30 p.m. Contact Cheryl Dorfman, 528-4773, or Sandy Gove, 524-2555, to attend.
The October 10th Zonta meeting welcomes Dr. Tajammul Shafique, LRGH Surgeon, and Ginny Witkin, director of nursing at LRGH, who will speak and answer questions on breast cancer awareness. Gracie Cilley, Zonta member and a long-time force behind the local American Cancer Society’s Making Strides for Breast Cancer, will lead fellow Zonta members in this annual walk Sunday, Oct. 15, at Opechee Park, to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
Zonta members are individuals from throughout the Lakes Region in decision making positions, or those who have retired from such positions, who come together socially to work toward improving the status of women and their families, locally and around the world through service and advocacy. Guests are welcome at all meetings and are invited to visit www.zontadistrict1.org or www.zonta.org. Meetings are held in Laconia, and reservations for the optional dinner are required by the Friday prior to each meeting.
Contact Glenda Reynolds, 279-0219, Linda MacGuffie, 267-6870, or ZontaLakesNH@yahoo.com for additional information.
