Tonight, A Night Of Fright At The Colonial

Today is the only Friday the 13th in the year 2003, and the Colonial Theater in downtown Laconia is the only haunted theater in New England. So what better time and place to show the original Friday the 13th in a special showing that ends at midnight?

The Colonial’s practical-joking poltergeist has not been heard of in awhile; will Jason be the one to bring back this playful ghost? In the past, the ghost has been credited with rocking seat backs and moving trash can lids. Doors slam, and footsteps are heard running up the stairs. In one spectacular incident, videotapes were seen to be circling in the air in the video store that once inhabited the lobby of the theater.

A second ghost, an old man, was followed up to theaters 3 and 4, where he promptly disappeared up a trap door without benefit of a ladder.

So, perhaps, a scary movie, on a spooky day, will bring back some ghostly adventures from the past. Are you brave enough to be there to find out? The show starts at 10:30 p.m.

Also playing this week at the Colonial is the original Terminator. Terminator 3 is coming out on July 2nd, and we’re looking forward to it. We have a special connection to the Terminator series, much of which was filmed minutes from our California home, in the Tujunga Wash. Get yourself all warmed up for the sequel by experiencing the original.

Friday the 13th and Terminator are rated R. No one under 17 will be admitted unless accompanied by an adult parent or guardian. Identification is required.

And for the whole family this week, we’re proud to present The Iron Giant, in our opinion the best animated feature ever to come out of Warner Brothers, more than a match for the best Disney films of recent years. If you missed this in the theaters the first time, don’t miss it this time.
