On Sunday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the Greater Meredith Program will be hosting its first ever chalk art competition at the Plymouth Street Municipal parking lot. This event is being held as part of the Meredith in Bloom Festival celebrating summer in Meredith.
Chalk art, or Madonnari as it is known in Europe, is an outdoor interactive public art project where members of the community get together and create fantastic ephemeral works of art in chalk and dry pastel on the sidewalks or other paved surfaces. This event is being organized by local artist Kelly Bennett.
The Meredith in Bloom Festival’s Madonnari chalk art competition is open to any participant or group that would like to create a beautiful work of art. All levels of artistic skill are desired and materials will be provided to the participants for a nominal entry fee ($10 per entry, single entrant or $15 per entry, team entry) to help defray the cost of materials and advertising.
All pieces will be part of a juried art show open to the public at no charge, and prizes will be awarded for many categories including but not limited to People’s Choice, Most Uniquely New Hampshire, Most Imaginative, and Best Group.
For more information and to register for this event, visitwww.greatermeredith.com. Download your application and return it with your $10 or $15 fee to GMP, c/o Kelly or Monica Bennett, 25 Cataldo Road, Meredith, NH 03253 no later than June 3.
