In a ceremony on June 6, Laura Burke was presented with LRGHealthcare's 2008 Sue Boultbee Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship is presented to a nursing student every year since 2002 in honor of Sue Boultbee, RN, BSN. She was a creative and energetic RN at Lakes Region General Hospital for many years and had a passion for nursing and education. This scholarship was created to continue her legacy and to honor someone who shares her enthusiasm.

Laura Burke is a nursing student at Lakes Region Community College, and plans to graduate in 2010. She lives in Moultonborough and is the mother of two teenage children. Her husband teaches high school math. In the past Laura has been a teacher, coach, and camp counselor.

Like Sue Boultbee, Burke had a degree previously — a Bachelor of Science in Biology — before pursuing her nursing degree. She truly enjoys working with people and has been taking care of family members who have had many health issues. This experience has made her realize that being a nurse and working in the healthcare field would be a fulfilling and challenging career. Her future career goal is to become a Registered Nurse and work in the Lakes Region area. She has a special interest in the care of the elderly and working in a hospital setting.

The award was presented to Laura Burke by Mark Wilkinson, oldest son of Sue Boultbee.
