CENTER HARBOR — Bayswater Books of Center Harbor will sponsor a Tea and Talk with sibling authors on Monday, July 20 at 7 pm at the Moultonborough Library. Author Jon Keller will be discussing his book, Of Sea and Cloud, joined by his sister, author Abi Maxwell, discussing her newest book with local ties, Lake People. Tickets are $20 and include the price of one book.
Keller, a former professor at the University of Montana, now lives year-round on a sailboat off the coast of Maine. During his many years working on lobster boats, Keller wrote numerous articles concerning the economics and politics of commercial fisheries for a monthly paper and took copious notes to document the people and dialect that amazed him. Of Sea and Cloud evolved from these notes.
It tells the story of two sons, Jonah and Nicolas, lobstermen alongside their father until he is lost at sea. Facing the economic downturn, the crashing price of lobster, and the crooked leanings of their father's former business partner, Jonah and Nicolas must decide how much to risk for their family's legacy. "The rich lore of the Maine lobstermen combines with an energetic narrative and muscular prose to make Keller's fiction debut a winner." – Publisher's Weekly.
Author Abi Maxwell's novel, Lake People, is set in the small New Hampshire town of Kettleborough, a town very similar to many found in the actual Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
Hailed as a "powerful, luminous novel" by Booklist, Lake People tells the story of Alice, given up for adoption as a baby, searching for the truth about her life and navigating her way with a cast of characters. As Alice edges closer to her past, Lake People evokes the interweaving of family history and individual fate, and the connections we feel to the place where we were born. Maxwell is a lifelong resident of Gilford, and drew from the Lakes Region in the writing of Lake People.
