In honor of Scout Sunday, February 3, the United Baptist Church in Lakeport will be hosts to Boy Scout Troop 65 and Girl Scouts from Belmont.. The scouts will participate in the worship service with church members.
And in recognition of the Super Bowl being played on Sunday — the second highest day for food purchase and consumption in the United States — the church's BYF teens will be taking a "Souper Bowl" collection at the end of the worship service. The proceeds will go to our local Salvation Army soup kitchen located on Union Ave. in Laconia.
When all of the monies are tallied at the end of the service, the amount will be reported to 1-800-358-Soup, where totals from churches all over the United States will be tallied. Last year over $8-million was collected and turned over to a variety of places helping the hungry in the U.S. from church groups who participated.
Also, there will be an Ash Wednesday Service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6 held in our vestry and chapel room. A simple soup meal will be eaten together in the vestry, then we will gather in the chapel room for the service.
