LACONIA — Registration is now open for free Adult Education classes in Basic Math, Reading, and GED Preparation, to be held from 6 — 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Writing Skills, designed to help people with grammar, punctuation, and how to write an essay, will be held on Monday nights. Reading Comprehension classes covering the subject areas of Science, Social Studies, and Literature, will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Math Skills focusing on basic math, fractions, decimals, measurement, Geometry and Algebra functions will also be covered. All classes will prepare students for taking the GED Exam.

"Stop being embarrassed about not being able to read or follow written directions, said Peggy Selig, program director. "If you are unable to help your children with homework, read them a bedtime story, or fill out a job application, the Adult Basic Education classes are for you. They will also help provide you with the reading and math skills that you need to get a job, get off welfare, or even get a job promotion."

Classes are individualized; each student progresses at his or her own pace. There are no tests and there is no fear of failing.

To enroll in the reading, math, and GED classes stop by the Adult Education office in Room #108 at Laconia High School or call 524-5712 for more information.
