Realtor hosts party to benefit the Shaw Family Memorial Scholarship Fund

LACONIA — On Sunday evening, June 19, family and friends of local realtor Kevin Shaw gathered at the Laconia Country Club to enjoy some food, entertainment, a silent auction and most importantly, the premiere showing of the hit HGTV show "Lakefront Bargain Hunt." In addition, the event raised funds for the Shaw Family Memorial Scholarship Fund, managed by the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation.

LRSF Executive Director Joan Cormier said "On behalf of LRSF, we are pleased to be here this evening to congratulate Kevin. This event is not only a great way to come together to watch his television premiere, but also a wonderful way to support a great cause."

She said that foundation celebrated its 60th anniversary in February of this year and this spring awarded $343,760 to 299 Lakes Region students, bringing the total to $5,548,255 awarded to 4,811 recipients since 1956, when $2,650 was awarded to 16 students. "All of this is made possible through the generosity of our donors, which numbered eight in 1956, five of which are still with us. Over the years there have been 534 donors or donor funds, not including all of the thousands of individual donors who have supported special fundraisers, such as this for the Shaw Family Memorial Fund." said Cormier.

LRSF Assistant Director Paulette Loughlin said "The Shaw Family Memorial Fund was established by family, friends and business associates in 1989 with the passing of Bruce L. Shaw, Kevin's dad. Bruce Shaw was a graduate of the Laconia High School class of 1960 and a Vietnam veteran. He was also instrumental in establishing and administering the LHS Class of 1960 Scholarship in honor of their deceased classmates. At the time of his death, he was the president and chairman of the board of Laconia Electric Supply Company. He was also actively involved in promoting youths and athletics in the Lake Region. The fund was expanded in 1996, after the untimely passing of his son, Scott, to include offerings made in his memory. We are grateful to Jill, Kevin and Heidi for commemorating their loved ones through LRSF and to all of you for your participation in this worthwhile event."
