Laconia hosts youth lacrosse traditional North/South competition

 

LACONIA — Like an All-Star competition for New Hampshire lacrosse, the North/South games will be held in Laconia for the second year in a row. Players from across the state will be assembled into opposing teams at all levels to compete for bragging rights. Games will be held throughout the day on Saturday, May 27, at the Laconia High School turf field. Girls' games will run throughout the morning, with boys playing all afternoon.

This past Sunday, Laconia youth teams had quite a bit of action.

Girls

The Laconia 10U girls played two games this weekend. The first game was in on Goffstown Saturday. They came away with a convincing 15-6 win. The Laconia offensive, led by Sofia Swormstedt (9 goals), Kali Muzzey (4 goals), Norah Lee, and Hayden Bicknell (1 goal each) was unstoppable. The defense, led by Cali Andriski and Zoe Zimmer was also very solid, and the team was backed up by outstanding goaltending by Macey Fields and Amiyah Zanes. An all-around excellent job by the 10U girls! home against Hampstead. The second game on Sunday, was a 13-8 win against Hampstead.

The 12U girls lost 3-9 against Concord at Memorial Field.

The 14U girls played against Concord at home. Madison Brooks was the first to score, but Concord quickly caught up and overtook the Sachems ending the half 7-2. In the second half, Emma LaDuke scored for the second time, followed by Lauren McDonald. Katie Westcott scored the last goal with 10 seconds left in the game, but it wasn't enough, and the girls lost 5-14.

Boys

The 8U boys' played away in Gilford, winning this week against Lakes Region. The 10U boys won 14-6 at Northwoods against Black Bear. The Laconia 12U boys played at home against Seacoast losing 5-9. The 14U boys played at home against Concord Crush losing 0-13.

This week's spotlight is on the girls' 12U team. Jamie Randall has been involved with Laconia Youth Lacrosse for over 7 years. This is his first year as head coach. He has a strong roster of experienced players who have come up through the league, many of them playing since 1st or 2nd grade. Geographically the girls come from all over the region including Meredith, New Hampton, Weirs Beach, and Northfield as well as Laconia. Team members are Chloe Bouchard, Carley Cellupica, Grace DeMatos, Brianna Dewolfe, Ella Dion, Felicity Faller, Jayda Glines, Lexie Gray, Amelia Hosmer, Ava Hosmber, Reagan O'Neill, Anna Pepin,and Carrigan Williams.

The Laconia Lacrosse Club is a member of NHYLA, the New Hampshire Youth Lacrosse Organization, and fields teams with eligible kids from grades 1-9. Players include students from the surrounding towns including Meredith, Tilton, Sanbornton, Franklin, Northfield, Belmont, Canterbury, and Center Harbor as well as Laconia.
