LACONIA — The Laconia Adult Education diploma program, known as Laconia Academy, offers an opportunity to take targeted classes or work toward a high school diploma in the evening. Besides academic classes, Laconia Academy also offers pre-nursing courses such as Chemistry and Biology (both with labs) and Algebra I. The Algebra course is further designed to help students improve or brush-up on their math skills allowing them to not spend large amounts of money taking remedial courses in their post-secondary pursuits.
Laconia Adult Education als offers free preparation for the HiSET exam. The HiSET, formerly known as GED, is accepted by the military, employers, and post-secondary institutions. These free classes run on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-8:30 p.m. Call the Laconia Adult Education office at 524-5712 and learn about what is required and how to schedule an exam.
Laconia Adult Education offers free English as a second language classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. These classes run for 11 weeks.
Enrichment comes in many different shapes, sizes, styles, and types in the Laconia Adult Education program. Dog obedience offers eight week classes this fall starting on Wednesday, Sept. 28. There is a welding basics course. Starting as Sept. 2,1 Laconia Adult Education offers a number of courses focusing on health and well being, including acupuncture, holistic health, yoga and belly dancing.
Enrichment can also come in learning a skill. Starting the week of Sept. 26 consider bead weaving for beginners, fly tying, foreign languages, golf, guitars and oil painting There are also Chinese cooking and farm to table cuisine courses plus a wine tasting seminar and gourmet dinner.
