LACONIA — The Laconia Human Relations Committee, in cooperation with the Laconia Public Library, will show the film The Sea Inside on Monday, March 6, at 6:15 p.m. This is another in the International Film Series shown monthly from September through June at the library.
This is the true life story of Spaniard Ramón Sampedro, who fought a 28-year campaign trying to win the right to end his own life with dignity. As a young man he was injured in a diving accident and remained a paraplegic. His cheer and good will, along with a loving and caring family, carry him through life's darkest moments.
The Spanish government refuses to change its end-of-life statures. He feels that he has lived as well as he can. What can one do? Two women share his exploration of life. One, a lawyer, who suffers herself from a lingering disease, and the other, who believes life is to be lived as fully as possible. Through the gift of his love, these two women are inspired to accomplish things they never previously thought possible.
