High school equivalency testing fee changing

LACONIA — As of Jan. 1, the high school equivalency testing fee structure will change.

Currently, HiSET testing centers charge $95 to test-takers to take the entire battery (all five subtests) over the course of a twelve month period. There are various charges for transferring between centers, taking retests and testing after the battery expiration.

All test-takers will be charged $20 per subtest, regardless of whether it is the original test, a retest or testing after the 12-month expiration. This fee structure change will eliminate the need for transfer fees when a test-taker takes subtests in different testing centers. While it increases the fees for the entire test, it reduces the cost of retesting and testing after the expiration.

The high school equivalency exam consists of five subtests: English language arts, reading, math, social studies and science. The exam is available in both computer-based and paper-based formats. New Hampshire has 29 high school equivalency testing centers across the state, including Laconia, Franklin and Plymouth, offering a variety of day and evening testing sessions.
