Gilmanton School summer readers scream for ice cream

GILMANTON — The Gilmanton School PTA recently held its annual Reading Night at Jordan's Ice Creamery in Belmont.

This annual event takes place in the fall when turn in their summer reading log the first week of school. Students are rewarded with a free ice cream cone at Jordan's Ice Creamery for 20 books read.

Since the school's new kindergarten students have not attended our school, they get a pass and also receive a free ice cream. This event is sponsored by the Gilmanton School PTA.

The Gilmanton School PTA is responsible for raising money in order to supplement students' curriculum and enrich their educational experiences.

Some of the events the Gilmanton PTA supports are: Jordan's Reading Night, field trips for all grades, the Naturalist in the Classroom, and the Artist-in-Residence program. These activities are partially covered by the school budget, but are extremely important to our children's educational enrichment.

Anyone in the Gilmanton community is welcome to attend PTA meetings which are held monthly at the school. Check out the website for all our latest events at http://gilmanton.sau79.org/home/pta.
