Community Coffee House to be held at Pitman’s Freight Room tonight

LACONIA — The monthly Community Coffee House at Pitman's Freight Room will be held Tuesday, May 26 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Freight Room in Laconia. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

The event is an open mic concept where individuals from the community are welcome to perform live musical pieces, songs, poems, comedy skits, short stories, and more. In the past few months, the event has attracted live folk musicians, authors, singers from around the state, All-State musicians from local high schools, students from the University of New Hampshire, and many others. There is no sign-up sheet prior to the event, rather people are asked to share their interest in performing to the event's MC when they arrive.

Admission cost is $7 per person. All proceeds from this event will go toward local Laconia High School senior, Alana Persson, to help offset the cost of her tuition to travel with the international non-profit organization Up With People (UWP). Persson has been raising funds since the Fall of 2014 and although close to her goal she is still shy of the $15,000 that needs to be raised. She will be departing next month on June 28 for Denver, Colorado to begin her year of international travel, service, and performance with a cast of 100 other young individuals.

"It does not seem possible that my adventure is just one month away, and although I am excited I still need to stay focused on raising the rest of the funds needed," states Persson. "I truly appreciate all that everyone has done to support me in in this and I hope to see you at the Coffee House!"
