MEREDITH — On Wednesday Nov. 11, following the Veterans Day service at the Meredith Library, the American Legion Post 33 Honor Guard and all veterans and people showing support for those men and women who have served this country over the years will gather at the "State Original POW/MIA Memorial" in Hesky Park.
Meredith resident and Navy Vietnam veteran Chuck Thorndike will be giving the Veterans Day address. He served in the Navy from 1967-1970 as E5 Radarman. He served aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard CVA 31 aircraft carrier as well as what was known as the "Brown Water Navy" — Coastal Division 12 Swift Boat Unit, Vietnam.
Thorndike, known by many as the retired president of Annalee Mobilitee Dolls Co. Inc. has continued to serve his community over the years in a number of positions, including as youth league soccer and ski coach, Scout leader, Meredith Rotary member, and chairman and board member of Lakes Region Visiting Nurses and Meredith Village Savings Bank, just to name a few.
"Veterans Day, a time veterans and all can come together and show how we care for those who have served this country and no community does it better than Meredith and no better place than where it's written in stone," said event organizer Bob Jones. "Let us not forget."
