Charlie Chatterton, a retired engineer and inventor, is the 2007 Joseph D. Vaughan award winner from Belknap County.

The award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding volunteer leadership and initiative among senior citizens. An individual or couple from each county is selected for demonstrating outstanding leadership or meritorious achievement as volunteers on behalf of older adults.

Chatterton volunteers at Inter–Lakes Senior Center in Meredith, making crafts and tops for visitors, members and guests. He has donated tops to many different groups such as pre-schools, schools, choruses, clubs, local organizations, civic groups, churches and other senior centers. He can be counted on to bring a smile with his joke of the day. His kindness and good humor and willingness to help others is inspirational.

Carol F. Gerken, director of Inter–Lakes Senior Center, nominated him for the award. Caroline Russell of The Village Greenery in Meredith donated a yellow rose boutonnière for the recent award ceremony in Concord.
