MOULTONBOROUGH — Bayswater Books of Center Harbor will partner with the Moultonborough Library to host author, Michelle Sherburne, on Thursday, July 14, at 6 p.m. as she discusses her newest book, Slavery & the Underground Railroad in New Hampshire. The event will take place at the library.

A Vermont resident for over 40 years, Sherburne is an author, historian, lecturer, and freelance writer regarding the history of abolition in Vermont and New Hampshire. Slavery & the Underground Railroad in New Hampshire tells the story of how New Hampshire was once a hotbed of abolitionist activity, but also simultaneously struggled with slavery, as Portsmouth was considered the slavery hub of New England. Sherburne uncovers the truth about slavery, the Underground Railroad, and the moral ambiguity occurring in New Hampshire at the time regarding strides for and against abolition.

Rich in fascinating historical information not widely known, Slavery & the Underground Railroad in New Hampshire is an inside look at how the state of New Hampshire played a role in both worlds and who helped to create a statewide anti-slavery movement.
