LACONIA — Laconia Motorcycle Week is right around the corner and that means it's time for the 3rd Annual Mae West Memorial Pet Run by Sick Boy Cycles to benefit the New Hampshre Humane Society on Monday, June 13. Registration begins at Rally Headquarters on Lakeside Avenue, Laconia at 8 a.m., kickstands up at 10:30 a.m. The fee is $25 per rider and $20 per passenger and one lucky rider will win a limited edition, never been offered for sale, Guns 'N Roses poster, autographed by all members, for their reunion show in Vegas.
Mae West was an orange tabby cat adopted by Laconia Motorcycle Week President Charlie St. Clair in 2002 from the New Hampshire Humane Society. She lived a long and pampered life, passing away after 12 happy years with Charlie. To honor her memory and highlight the mission of the local animal shelter
on Meredith Center Road in Laconia, this ride now bears her name.
"We are very thankful that Mae West found her forever home, and one so loving that there is a motorcycle ride in her honor", said Marylee Gorham, executive director of the New Hampshire Humane Society. "We are pledged to care for over 1,000 animals each year, finding them loving forever homes, just like the one Mae West enjoyed for so long. Of course, wonderful stories such as Mae West's happen only with support from friends such as Charlie,
Sick Boy Cycle, and the larger riding community."
To learn more about the Mae West Memorial Motorcycle Ride or to view animals currently up for adoption, stop by the shelter at 1305 Meredith Center Road, Laconia or visit the New Hampshire Humane Society's website, www.nhhumane.org.
Those who cannot participate in the ride on Monday are invited to make a donation to support the cats and dogs, puppies and kittens currently awaiting their second chance at love. Details on how to do so are found online at nhhumane.org or by calling 524-3252.
