MEREDITH — The snowflakes are falling outside which means it is time to enjoy the Winter Reading Programs at the Meredith Public Library.

The adult program will run from Tuesday, Jan. 20 to Thursday, Feb. 19. This year’s theme is “What’s Hot at the Meredith Public Library.” Participants will complete a thermometer by checking out materials (including books, DVDs, magazines, and audiobooks) from seven different categories such as Melt Your Heart (any item with a pet or animal on the cover or in the title), Flames of Desire (any item with romance in the plot), and Ignite a Spark of Knowledge (any non-fiction item).

The brochure with the game board and instructions will be available at the library circulation desk starting Tuesday, Jan. 20. A raffle drawing for a winter prize basket will be held on Friday, Feb. 20. Entries must be received by 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Those that collect all seven pieces of the thermometer will have a chance at the reading-related grand prize. Collecting at least one piece gives readers a chance at second or third prize. Only one prize per winner will be given out. There is no cost to participate.

Winter Reading Programs for teens and children are also going on. Children will be filling out reading logs and earning colored stones as currency toward prizes. Their program runs from Friday, Jan. 23, to Saturday, Feb. 28. Parents should go to the Children’s Room to sign up.

The teen program will also employ reading logs as well a Bingo sheet and book reviews. Teens earn their own popular currency (called the schmiddy) which they will be able to turn in for coveted prizes. The teen reading program dates are Tuesday, Jan. 6, to Friday, Feb. 13, for the actual reading and then Tuesday, Feb. 17, to the end of March for the redemption period. Teens should see Teen Librarian MaryBeth to sign up.
