Winnisquam Regional Middle School students learn important babysitting skills

TILTON — Sixteen middle school students at Winnisquam Regional School District have the opportunity to learn valuable babysitting skills ahead of the upcoming summer break. Student Assistance Counselor Cheryl Maynes, is leading the six-week program where students meet one afternoon a week. Course topics include safety for both the children and the babysitter, training in CPR and first aid, behavior management, activity selection by age, appropriate snacks, and building an activity kit to use on the job.

"It's been great training for tomorrow's babysitters with current happenings in families around our community, and they will be able to offer safety, creativity and assurances to parents that their children will be well cared for,” Maynes said.

Kim Beck, parent of one of the participants said, “Emma has been helping watch her seven year old brother for almost a year now, and even though she's very good with him, I was excited to see this class being offered. The Babysitting Club provides the students with information that will make them more successful, whether it is watching a sibling or on a babysitting job. I am proud to be raising a strong, independent young lady and am thankful for all that Mrs. Maynes does to promote their self-confidence.”
