MOULTONBOROUGH — University of New Hampshire sophomore Evan Christensen will share his work on the Anti-Profanity League and its influence on public conversation and its relevance to the present on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m., hosted at the Moultonborough Public Library.
Christensen, an undergraduate from the UNH class of 2028 received the Roland D. Sawyer Scholarship in March 2025. He is very passionate about interdisciplinary research connected to complex historical, social, and biological questions. His goal is to contribute to education among multiple fields where this knowledge will have a positive impact.
In his presentation, Christensen speaks about Anti-Profanity Leagues, an early 1900s movement in the United States that aimed to reduce vulgar language throughout the public with campaigns, public education, and the promotion of moral standards. These groups saw profanity as a religious evil, making clean speech a matter of national character.
