MEREDITH — On Thursday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m., The Loft at Hermit Woods will present The Ayan Imai-Hall Quartet. Its fusion of jazz music and tap dance is an age-old tradition passed down through generations, enriching the musical heritage.
Ayan Imai-Hall, an accomplished tap dancer, collaborates with Jett Tachibana on saxophone, Asa Meyer-Waldo on double bass, and Zak King on drums. Together, they'll explore the American songbook and compositions from the Bebop era, creating a truly captivating performance.
Tachibana, a saxophonist from Maine, boasts deep roots in the bebop genre. Holding a degree from the USM School of Music, Tachibana contributes to traditional and contemporary jazz scenes.
Meyer-Waldo, a talented double bassist based in West Bath, Maine, plays a dynamic role in New England's thriving jazz community.
King, a drummer based in Boston and New York City, stands out in the Northeast music scene. Holding a master of music in performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, his drumming prowess is highly sought-after.
Imai-Hall, a tap dancer from New Hampshire, received the NHSCA Traditional Arts Grant in 2012 alongside Blues musician TJ Wheeler. Since then, Imai-Hall has been dedicated to infusing tap dance into the New England Seacoast musical fabric.
