Taste the Trail to support WOW Trail expansion to Meredith

MEREDITH — The effort to create a multi-use trail connection between Meredith and Weirs Beach will take another step forward when community members gather for Taste the Trail, a special fundraising event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Hermit Woods Winery.

Presented by Fifty-Five Main Kitchen & Bar and Stephens Landscaping Professionals, Taste the Trail will bring together residents, business and community leaders, and outdoor enthusiasts for an evening dedicated to advancing the proposed Meredith-to-Weirs Beach section of the WOW Trail.

Guests will enjoy wine from Hermit Woods, craft beer from Stoneface Brewing, spirits from Tamworth Distilling, and a chef-prepared appetizer buffet from Patrick’s Pub & Eatery, in Gilford, and Hermit Woods Winery. The evening will also feature live piano music by Chris Mega and a live auction.

“The WOW Trail has become a treasured Lakes Region recreational asset,” said WOW Trail President Allan Beetle. “Taste the Trail is a special opportunity for people who believe in this next section to come together, enjoy a memorable evening and help move the project forward.”

The WOW Trail currently runs from Elm Street, in Lakeport, through downtown Laconia, to the Belmont town line, where it connects with Belmont’s Winnisquam Scenic Trail. Together, the two trails provide approximately 4.25 miles of continuous paved, multi-use trail.

Extending the trail from Weirs Beach to Meredith would create a safe, off-road connection between two of the Lakes Region’s most popular destinations and complete another important link in the long-term vision of connecting Meredith to the Northern Rail Trail in Franklin.

The trail provides opportunities for walking, running and cycling while connecting communities, supporting area businesses and encouraging healthy outdoor recreation.

“The success of the WOW Trail has always been driven by community support,” Beetle said. “Every ticket purchased will help us bring this important connection closer to reality.”
