HOLDERNESS — Squam Lakes Natural Science Center kicks off its 60th anniversary season on Friday, May 1, marking six decades of connecting people with the natural world.Â
The 2026 season invites visitors to explore the Live Animal Exhibit Trail, where a new series of interpretive panels celebrates the Science Center’s 60-year history, highlighting the animals, staff, volunteers, and events that have shaped its growth.
This milestone year will also welcome the Science Center’s two millionth visitor since the trail system first opened on July 1, 1970. Since its founding in 1966, the Science Center has inspired generations through up-close animal encounters, immersive outdoor experiences, and hands-on environmental education.Â
Over the decades, the Science Center has expanded, adding new exhibits that deepen the understanding of New Hampshire’s natural world. Today, visitors encounter a wider variety of native wildlife along the trail, including foxes, river otters, mountain lions, raptors and more, continuing the Science Center’s long standing mission.
The Science Center is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with last trail admission at 3:30 p.m. For more information, visit nhnature.org.
