HOLDERNESS — Join the Squam Lakes Association for a morning hike through Whitten Woods on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 9:30 a.m. and learn about how trees adapt to the winter climate. Led by Lakes Region Conservation Corps AmeriCorps member Kyle Wolz, this hike will focus primarily on winter adaptations of multi-limbed animals, and touch on changes that happen in the fall and spring. For those unfamiliar with Whitten Woods, the hike will head out to the North Peak trail loop for a roughly two and a half mile round-trip outing.
Participants will meet at the Whitten Woods parking lot at 9:30 a.m. and should plan for a two and a half hour excursion. This hike is accessible for all experience levels, but participants should expect areas of uneven terrain and gradual elevation changes. Participants should bring water, trail snacks, microspikes, warm and comfortable clothing and shoes for hiking, a thermos with warm drinks or soup, and trail guides.
