Preserve your memories with Laconia Public Library’s new Memory Cart

LACONIA — Do you have photographs from years past or old family videos on VHS? Or, perhaps you have a reel of 8mm film that you haven’t been able to view. Stop by the Laconia Public Library with your treasured memories and use the library’s new Memory Cart to start digitizing and preserving them.

The Laconia Public Library’s Memory Cart is equipped with a laptop, VHS Vidbox Converter and VCR, so you can digitize your home movies; an Epson flatbed photo scanner for your photographs; 35mm mounted slides, 35mm film strips, and Medium format strips 6x22cm. The Memory Cart is also equipped with a fully automated Wolverine 8mm/Super 8 digitizer that saves footage from 8mm and Super 8 reels to your 32GB SD/SDHC card. The cart includes a book of easy-to-follow instructions for each device and staff are available to assist as needed.

Ready to preserve your memories? Plan ahead. VHS Conversion is done in real-time, if your home movie is one hour long, then it will take one hour to convert it to a digital format. Due to copyright law, any VHS and other media that is under copyright may not be preserved using the Library’s Memory Cart. Also, plan to bring an external storage device with ample room so you can bring those digitized memories home: an SD/SDHC 32GB card for the Wolverine 8mm converter, a USB drive for the VHS converter and a photo scanner.
