LACONIA — The Unitarian Universalist Green Sanctuary Committee & Laconia/Gilford Lions have rescheduled their latest plastic collection event for the second time. Weather permitting, the event will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 172 Pleasant St.
Clean soft dry plastics can be accepted. Only hard Styrofoam products bearing a No. 6 symbol will be accepted such as all size coolers, meat and produce trays, egg cartons, plates and cups, food clam shells or trays, coffee cups. Volunteers cannot accept bubble wrap or thin foam wrap, packing peanuts, soft or squishy or dirty foam, pipe insulation. All foam must be clean and dry.
Plastics will be repurposed into composite decking and furniture. Styrofoam will be delivered to the foam recycling center at the Gilford transfer station.
At the same time, participants will also hold a food drive benefiting the Community Action Program. Easy access items such as pop top canned goods, boxed cereal, and energy bars or drinks are particularly requested.
