BRISTOL — Pasquaney Garden Club will hold its Annual Plant Sale on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to noon behind the Minot-Sleeper Library in Bristol.
The sale primarily offers perennials dug from local gardens of members and community friends. Divisions are also dug and potted from some of the featured plantings in the Butterfly Garden behind the Library. As in past years, the variety of plants will include some of the time tested favorites hardy to our area and some more unusual, but proven successful with local gardeners.
Visitors to the sale may ask questions at an information table and this year the club will be providing handouts on an emerging problem to gardeners: the jumping worm. As odd as this pest’s name sounds, it cannot be taken lightly since in other areas of the U.S. it has become a true threat by destroying the nutrient rich top layer of leaf compost in forests; eventually changing the natural species that feed all forest life including seedlings, insects, small and large animals. The information provided explains how gardeners can identify and help curtail the spread of jumping worms which are often first spotted in yards and gardens.
On a lighter note, there will be a raffle opportunity for a garden seat kneeler and an odds and ends table. Volunteers and plant donations are welcome. Plant donations may be brought to the sale Saturday, June 1, 8 to 9 a.m.prior to the sale opening.
