MOULTONBOROUGH — The Moultonborough Public Library will host a new gardening lecture series, designed to nurture the community's growing interest in sustainable gardening and soil health. Kicking the series off is local expert John Moulton, who will present a talk on the importance of healthy soil on Thursday, April 3, at 5 p.m.Â
Moulton's presentation will explore the critical role soil plays in successful gardening. Participants will gain insights into how to optimize their soil for vibrant and productive gardens.
In conjunction with the soil lecture, the library is facilitating soil testing through the University of New Hampshire. Gardeners can receive an analysis of their soil's pH and composition, along with tailored recommendations for nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilization. Soil sample instruction forms are available at the library. The deadline for submitting samples, forms, and payment made out to UNH Cooperative Extension is Monday, April 14, at 10 a.m. Results will be mailed to participants approximately three weeks after submission.
The gardening series will continue monthly with presentations by landscape and gardener Kat Holden. Her sessions will explore ecological design principles, providing practical advice on invasive species management on Thursday, May 15; site analysis on Thursday, July 8; natural pest control on Thursday, Aug. 14; and stormwater management on Thursday, Sept. 23. All talks start at 6 p.m.Â
In June, the library will facilitate well water testing as part of the gardening series.Â
