WOLFEBORO — Death is something everyone encounters, but it isn't always something people feel comfortable talking about.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Makers Mill will provide the setting for a free Death Café, offering adults a supportive and informal place to gather over tea and snacks and talk openly about death and dying.
A Death Café is not grief counseling, therapy, or a support group. Instead, it is a lightly moderated, unstructured conversation where people in all phases of life can explore their thoughts, questions, and experiences surrounding death.
The conversation will be facilitated by Gwyn Villa, who specializes in hospice and palliative nursing care. Villa became interested in the Death Café movement as a way to create safe spaces where conversations about death and dying can become a more normal part of life.
There is no agenda and no expectation that participants arrive with a particular question or experience to share. The goal is simply to create room for an honest conversation about a subject that can often be difficult to approach.
Providing space for gatherings like Death Café reflects Makers Mill's broader role as a community hub, a place not only for making and learning, but also for connecting, exchanging ideas, and learning from one another.
The Death Café is open to adults 18 and older and is free to attend. Space is limited to 10 participants, and advance registration is requested.
