LACONIA The first annual Laconia Firefighter Mark E. Miller “Light of the City Award" will be presented at the Laconia City Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 8. This award will be given annually to a community member who has gone above and beyond in their service to others within the community.

Firefighter Miller was an 18 year veteran of the Laconia Fire Department and was head of the Laconia Fire Department Dive Team when he passed away while training in Lake Winnipesaukee on March 11, 2004. His career in the Fire Department and throughout the community was characterized by a strong commitment to serving others and always being willing to go above and beyond when duty called.

All community members are eligible to be considered for the award. The award committee, chaired by Firefighter Miller's surviving spouse, Gayle Miller, will be accepting nominations through Oct. 15. The committee will consider all nominees and make the award based on commitment to community, special acts of going above and beyond in service to others and the person's positive impact on the community. Send nominations to: Firefighter Mark Miller Award, c/o Gayle Miller, 72 Eastman Shore Rd., South Laconia or via email: gaylemiller@metrocast.net.
