MEREDITH ― The Inter-Lakes Middle School and High School Nordic Ski Teams recently competed in the second of their two biggest races of the season. The New Hampshire Series races are two of the largest one-day youth middle and high school ski races of any state in the nation, attracting more than 600 racers from New Hampshire public and private schools. Skiers in grades 6 through 12 are eligible to participate. Races took place at the Gunstock Nordic Center, where temperatures hovered around 18 degrees and snow fell steadily throughout the day.

Inter-Lakes High School team member Elsa Bartlett led the Lakers with an impressive 5th‑place finish, while fellow racer Sydney Conkling placed 55th in a field of more than 100 racers. Ziba Patridge finished 32nd, with strong races from Jules Nelson (66th) and Eli Dunn (76th).

The middle school girls turned in an excellent showing: Alexandra Sproul placed 15th, Bea Cartier 29th, and Aliya Sovie had her best race of the season, finishing 34th. They were followed by Olivette Dunn (40th), Hazel Templemen (61st) and, Aubree Kimball (59th) and Emma Olden (63rd).

The middle school boys also posted solid results: Silas Patridge led the group in 22nd, with Aiden Down in 38th. Milan Shute (31st) and Caleb Geib (51st), along with Levi Geib (57th), rounded out the team’s strong performance.

Perhaps the most impressive part of the day wasn’t just the racing — it was the Lakers’ commitment to volunteering. Six Inter-Lakes high school skiers, along with other NH students, ran the start lines for both middle school races. Managing more than 100 young racers, they organized 15‑second interval starts, tracked scratches, calmed nerves, and kept the atmosphere upbeat — all with big smiles.

Coaches and parents were incredibly proud — not just of the skiing, but of the support and volunteering that showcased the very best of Laker spirit.
