GILFORD — Gilford Fire-Rescue has announced that it has received a $1,500 Spark Good Local Grant from the Walmart facility located at 1458 Lake Shore Road in Gilford.
This grant has allowed the department to replace aging gym equipment with new, heavy-duty and commercial-grade equipment designed to withstand the rigors of modern training.
This upgrade aligns with the department's ongoing commitment to improving the health, functional fitness, and operational readiness of our members. Physical fitness is crucial for firefighters as it helps to prevent injuries, improve job performance, increase career longevity and enhance quality of life while reducing costs associated with injuries or illnesses. To perform effectively and safely, high levels of aerobic fitness, muscular endurance, strength, power and flexibility are required. Physically and psychologically demanding tasks performed on duty can put stress on the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and mental well-being of responders, making it important for firefighters to maintain their fitness.
We are incredibly grateful to Walmart for their generous support. This grant allowed us to purchase a power rack with a dip attachment, a hex trap bar as well as a few slam balls. This investment will help ensure our firefighters are properly equipped to enhance their fitness and carry out their duty safely, effectively, and in service to the citizens and visitors of Gilford.
Spark Good Local Grants are awarded annually by individual Walmart stores, Sam's Clubs, and Distribution Centers to address the unique needs of the communities they serve. The program focuses on supporting organizations that address basic needs, hunger, community resilience, and more.
