LACONIA — The Laconia Human Relations Committee will sponsor a performance by folk-pop artist Kimayo on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m.
Her authentic and personal songs are relatable and vulnerable. Coming out as queer in spring of 2021, her new music explores self-discovery with an adult contemporary sound. Her engaging performances even led to winning Best of the Lakes Region: Music (Solo) in 2022.
The Laconia Human Relations Committee is sponsoring this program as celebration of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Belknap Mill, starting at 2 p.m. The program will include Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech followed by an interpretation by Seifu Ragassa. Mr. Ragassa is an Ethiopian refugee, now a U.S. citizen and currently chief of the department of probation and parole in Carroll County.
Kimayo will be performing several songs interspersed with discussions of MLK-themed works by local artists. The artists are Mike Durkee, Elaine Morrison, Chloe Sofronas, Jaylene Bengston, Ian Raymond, A. E. Brown, Dick Smith and Priscilla Bodwell. The public will be encouraged to interact with the artists.
The Belknap Mill is located at 25 Beacon St. E #1.
