LACONIA — In celebration of the 250th anniversary of America's independence, the Mary Butler Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will cover  membership application fees and first year's dues, a total value of $125 per person, for every new member in 2023.

The chapter, which serves the greater Laconia area, is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. The chapter organizes service activities, hosts educational events and provides scholarship opportunities for area youth. Learn more on Facebook by searching for “Mary Butler Chapter, NSDAR.”

Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. Don't know your lineage or whether you have a Patriot ancestor? No problem, the chapter has two trained volunteer genealogists ready to do all the work to assist prospective members with tracing their genealogy and identifying their Revolutionary War ancestors.

Members are welcome to participate as much or as little as they like. Programming ranges from American history to conservation to literacy to service for veterans. Membership can be cancelled without penalty at any time, but the hope is that after the first year, participants will want to continue.
