LACONIA — The Laconia community is invited to come together for a free, family-friendly celebration honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. The event will be held at the United Church of Christ Congregational Church of Laconia, located downtown. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.

This annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration is sponsored by the Laconia Human Relations Committee, funded through a grant from the NH Endowment for Health, and made possible by the dedication of many community volunteers.

This year’s program will feature a musical and spoken-word tribute, alternating live musical performances with readings that highlight Dr. King’s life, achievements, and enduring impact.

Musical selections reflecting Dr. King’s work and the era in which he lived will be performed by the UCC Congregational Church Choir, the Unitarian Universalist Society of Laconia Choir, and acclaimed local musician and vocalist Kimayo. The program will be moderated by Lena Nirk.

In addition, attendees will view the historic footage of Dr. King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech delivered in Washington, D.C. The program will take place in the church’s main sanctuary, followed by a complimentary full meal served in the community hall.
