WOLFEBORO — Have you ever wanted to try acting, but didn’t know if a full-length show was right for you? Have you ever wanted to tackle an emotionally-charged subject that touches every human? Have you ever wanted to help two local non-profit organizations fundraise at the same time?
If so, then “Dying with Laughter” may be just what you’re looking for.
There’s an old Hollywood saying: “Comedy is about them; tragedy is about us.” “Dying with Laughter” by Jay MacNamee is a comedy about us, a play that tackles an emotionally charged subject every human being confronts — the end of life — yet it does so in a humorous, touching, and uplifting way. In the style of Gurney’s “The Dining Room” and Cariani’s “Almost, Maine,” the play consists of several short pieces that stimulate people’s minds, tickle their funny bones, and touch their hearts. This production — a joint fundraiser for the Village Players and Granite VNA — will be the first time all seven pieces have been performed together.
Auditions for Dying with Laughter will be held on Wednesday, April 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Village Players Theater at 51 Glendon St. If you are unable to attend the audition but would like to audition, you may submit a video audition by April 4. If you have questions about the audition, contact Kathleen Hill at teacheractress@gmail.com.
Rehearsals may be online and in person and will be scheduled by individual directors. There will be a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. for actors and directors to discuss details of rehearsals and performances.
Performances are scheduled for May 20-22 and will take place at the Village Players Theater.
