PLYMOUTH — How many places in the greater Plymouth area used to be farms? Was your home or a favorite spot located on one of them? Using Plymouth as the focus, the Wednesday, Oct. 19, Plymouth Historical Society program will explore the changes small northern New England farming towns faced in the nineteenth century as many people moved west to new farm lands or south to the mills.
In the late nineteenth century the United States underwent tremendous changes, as described in the September presentation by Carrie Brown. In October, Plymouth’s own Marcia Schmidt Blaine will describe the impact of those changes on local areas.
Dr. Marcia Schmidt Blaine is a professor emerita of History at Plymouth State University. Since her retirement in 2021, she serves as a board member of NH Humanities and has been active in historical research and local service.
The virtual program will take place at 7 p.m. To register contact Marcia Schmidt Blaine at mblaine@plymouth.edu.
