BELMONT — MetroCast Communications has announced a significant speed enhancement for its residential, broadband high speed Internet customers, boosting its top downstream speed to 105 megabites per second.

The new speeds are being launched to MetroCast customers in Alton, Belmont, Laconia, and five other New Hampshire communities early next week. The speed enhancements will be available to all MetroCast Internet customers in New Hampshire and Maine by early February.

MetroCast has increased its top Internet speed in each of the last five years, and has tripled it in the last three years. The 105 Mbps High Speed Ultra offering is more than eight times faster than the national average for downstream speeds.

MetroCast will also boost the speed of its High Speed Turbo residential Internet package to 35 Mbps. Current customers will be automatically upgraded to the new speeds.

"MetroCast customers now have access to the fastest Internet speeds available in our service areas," said Josh Barstow, Vice President of Advanced Services for MetroCast. "The new speeds will optimize our customers' online experience, especially for demanding data applications such as video streaming and gaming."

In addition to its residential Internet speed increase, MetroCast has boosted its business-class modem downstream speed to 150 Mbps. In addition, MetroCast offers business-class fiber Ethernet products—including Dedicated Internet Access and Point-to-Point—with high-capacity bandwidth and symmetrical speeds up to 1Gig.
