Astronauts have impromptu cocktail party at International Space Station

Is this humanity's highest ever cocktail party — albeit without the cocktails?

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) took time out for an informal soirée 260 miles above Earth.

Amazingly, the crew was able to whip up delicious canapés, including shrimp cocktails and fajitas for a bash on Thursday, July 10.

NASA astronaut Jonny Kim reported: "One of the most unforgettable evenings I’ve experienced on this mission was sharing a meal with new friends, Ax-4, aboard the International Space Station.

"We swapped stories and marveled at how people from diverse backgrounds and nations came together to represent humanity in space.

"For appetizers, we made rehydrated shrimp cocktails and crackers. Our main course featured savory chicken and beef fajitas, and the cosmonauts capped the night with a delicious cake made from sweet bread, condensed milk, and walnuts."

Presently, the ISS crew is multinational, primarily composed of astronauts from the United States, Russia, and Japan, with additional private astronauts from other countries currently aboard.

From the United States, there are Anne McClain, Nichole Ayers, Jonny Kim, and Peggy Whitson.

Japan is represented by astronaut Takuya Onishi, while the Russian crew members include Kirill Peskov, Sergey Ryzhikov, and Alexey Zubritsky.

Additionally, the SpaceX Axiom-4 mission includes private astronauts such as Shubhanshu Shukla from India, and Tibor Kapu and Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski from Poland.
