To The Daily Sun,
The Merriam Webster definition of "Pollyanna" is: “a person characterized by irrepressible optimism and a tendency to find good in everything.”
There is room for optimism even in difficult times.
When (our) kids are deployed, when first responders arrive, during illness, but with prayer and hopefulness, we move forward. It is also true for the country and our state.
Optimism breeds confidence and hope that in the end, we will prevail as a nation so full of confidence and strength and humanity that we will emerge from these days with a new sense of purpose and resolve to make our future better for the next generation.
In our great state of New Hampshire, under current legislative circumstances, some problems continue to exist — lack of adequate child care, lack of affordable housing, cyanobacteria blooms, physician shortages and the constant threat to health care and reproductive freedom and public schools.
It is time for a legislative change. With optimism, and our vote, the new national excitement and enthusiasm will translate into local enthusiasm for a statewide change that will keep landfills away from our watersheds, for a chance to codify rights for women now and for our granddaughters, for a change to make life easier for caregivers and those at risk, for a change that makes it infinitely easier to love who we love without backlash.
Challenging times call for knowledge, leadership, situational awareness, skill, diplomacy and a dose of hope and faith that we together will achieve our goals of a bright future together.
By the way, the author of "Pollyanna," Eleanor H. Porter, is from Littleton, where a statue of her irrepressible character stands in front of the public library. Vote optimistically and enthusiastically for better both statewide and nationally.
