To The Daily Sun,

Recently attended the community forum, and while 90% of the discussions were amazing, two instances deeply troubled me. First, a speaker portrayed my last letter negatively, while aligning themselves with someone who openly advocated for genocide. Second, the son of the temple's leader spoke, and many members of the Democratic committee in attendance scoffed at him. I feel compelled to address both of these issues.

My letter to the editor specifically called out a member of the Human Relations Committee in Laconia for her use of the parable "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." Advocating for genocide cannot be tolerated, especially when expressed by local Human Relations Committee members. It was disconcerting to witness someone stand up in support of her in a room full of people gathered to stand with the Jewish community. This was deeply disturbing for anyone familiar with the context.

The man whom you scoffed at was not just expressing a personal opinion; he was a member of the affected community and the son of a local pillar in this community. Dismissing him simply because he criticized the left as he perceived it is unjust. We all came to show support for the affected, not to listen to anti-right rhetoric from one of the speakers. In that moment, he had every right to voice his perspective, perhaps more than the rest of us.

The speakers shared their varied approaches to addressing hatred, with some seeking guidance from local leaders on moving forward as a community. Unfortunately, these two issues marred what could have been an otherwise positive night. The most significant positive takeaway from tonight was the overwhelming number of individuals who attended, demonstrating our collective commitment to stand with those affected. Together, we pledge to work toward eradicating hatred from our city.
