Rick Notkin: A mixed bag of opinions as of late on many various topics

A mixed bag today.

Charles Ajootian noted on March 17 that a member of the New Hampshire Libertarian Party made an untoward comment. He expects the party members to denounce that comment.

I don’t recall seeing any similar letters when Democratic party members had made outrageous comments. Did readers? Will he apologize for misinterpreting the state slogan to “We live free, you die”? I doubt it.

I hear lots of comments and dire predictions from the left now that a gallon of gas is heading toward $4. Just like when Joe Biden was elected and gas shot up over $4. That didn’t happen? People said that they can’t expect the president to control the price of gasoline? Oh, yeah.

Item last: Iran.

OK, there are some people who can’t remember Nov. 4, 1979, when Iran invaded U.S. territory (i.e., our Embassy) and held 66 Americans hostage for 444 days. Fine. What about the 1983 bombing of the Beirut Marine barracks (241 Americans dead)? The 1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers (USAF housing) in Saudi Arabia (19 dead, 500 injured)? The 1998 bombings of two U.S. Embassies? How about the suicide attack on the USS Cole (17 dead, 37 injured)? Do you see a pattern here?

Many people are conflating the laws governing the use of force in self-defense for an individual (attack must be imminent and reasonable) with the rules of war, where the threat does not need to be imminent. We owe the rulers of Iran — big time.

I barely have time to note that the U.S. left, outspoken champions of women, have little to say of the oppression and abuse of women in Iran. Also, over 65% of Iran is actually Persian (the country’s name before it was conquered by Islamic fanatics, which established a theocracy). They’re celebrating.
