R. Paul Weston: Concerned about values associated with Christian Nationalism

To The Daily Sun,

Today I am very concerned about the rise of Christian Nationalism within our nation, especially during the electoral season we are now within. I state that I believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ, my Savior, and doubt when Jesus returns he will endorse the right wing policies as espoused by the "Christian" Nationals. They are linked to prejudice against minority groups, seek privilege to the "rightful" rule of white conservatives and are anti-immigrant, anti-racial mixing, and anti-minorities. They seek to restrict all who do not conform to traditional ideals of whiteness, citizenship, and Protestantism. They repeatedly exhibit within their political platform xenophobia (fear or dislike of anything strange or foreign), homophobia (negative feelings toward homosexuality), misogyny (hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women and girls, seeking to keep women at a lower social status) and pronatalism (a policy paradigm or personal value that promotes the reproduction of human life, or high birthrate). I ask you to consider which national political party advocates for these policies and feels that their values and religion are being threatened and marginalized? Which party has a basic distrust of science and supports even political violence (remember Jan. 6?) to preserve their "rightful" political views?

I, myself, adhere to the party that seeks to promote social programs, labor unions, equal opportunity, disability rights and racial equity. I will vote for the party that agrees with the scientific consensus on climate change and is in favor of a multilateral approach to foreign policy and immigration. I want my political party to promote: a high minimum wage, universal health care, public dollars going toward only public schools and subsidized housing for the aged, the developmentally delayed and minorities.
