Patricia Murphy: Vote for decency, scruples and character in Harris/Walz

An appeal to undecided voters: Please do not be fooled by political advertisements. Donald Trump and patriotism are far from synonymous. Donald Trump is a New York salesman. He has been lying to the American people since before his 2016 presidential run. One of the worse lies that he told was that America wasn’t great anymore. In adopting that slogan and propagating that lie, he mobilized a negative wave of discontent that has morphed into widespread hate and instances of violence. Trump did not keep his 2016 campaign promises — he did not build the wall, he did not drain the swamp, he did not release his taxes. He suggested that we inject bleach to prevent COVID. He blocked a bipartisan border bill because immigration is central to his campaign. Putting personal gain above progress is un-American and unconscionable. He is a tyrant who practices nepotism, cronyism, and favoritism. He is a manipulator and invented the term “fake news” to dismiss reports of his bad behavior. He is a liar, a thief, a bully, a bigot, an adulterer, a convicted felon, a con man, a narcissist, a racist, and a sexual predator. His plans for the presidency include seeking revenge against perceived wrongs and fixing things so that we will never have to vote again. What will Trump do next? When will he stop spewing hate? Will he stop? He is unhinged. The real Republican Party — the one with scruples and pride and decency has been usurped by Donald Trump. Character matters. In a race this close, every vote matters. I write this letter as a proud patriot who knows that America is already great and always has been. I urge readers to vote for decency, scruples and character. I urge them to vote Harris/Walz.
