To The Daily Sun,
The Newfound Area School District's five-year strategic plan (2019-2024) answers the questions the board has refused to answer over the past few months. Do you know what the plan is? Do you know why they want to expand the wellness policy? Do you know that teachers will be expected to interrupt their lessons to discuss the emotional feelings with the students? Do you know that the teachers will be expected to assess your child's social and emotional competencies? Do you know how the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund grant was spent? How can a teacher focus on teaching with these additional responsibilities? It's all part of the five-year plan.
The board has an obligation to keep the public informed, but they haven't. For example, the last strategic progress report is dated May 8, 2023; however, at the board meeting that evening it wasn't mentioned. This information should be provided on the SAU home page under "District Goals and Action Plans," instead it's under "Central Office." Even the formation of the wellness committee was done outside of a board meeting.
At the next meeting the board will vote on whether to hold a special meeting to address the community's concerns. Show them it's important; attend the joint budget/school board meeting Monday, Jan. 8, 6 p.m. at Newfound Regional High School.
We are looking for new board members for the towns of New Hampton, Hebron, Groton and Danbury. We need members who believe that teachers should be free to focus on teaching. We are ready to support candidates who believe academics comes first and transparency is not an option. We know that the school board position is demanding, and grueling at times, but our schools are failing academically, and our students need your help. If interested contact mariegcarson@gmail.com. We are ready to support your campaign.

How does classroom management work without addressing students' emotional and social needs? Can't do what they did when you were a kid and just send them out of the classroom to continue not learning how to interact with others.
