To The Daily Sun,

Throughout our nation’s history, we’ve had political figures who have earned the moniker, “the Great”: Henry Clay, the Great Compromiser; Abraham Lincoln, the Great Emancipator; Ronald Reagan, the Great Communicator, and now in the White House, we have Donald Trump, the Great Prevaricator.

Trump has created a legacy of lies and is in a class of his own; with lies that are meant to construct a new reality that his minions find more interesting than the complicated truth. These lies can be whatever he wants them to be and what his followers want to hear. He doesn’t care about the consequences; it’s all about him. He will do and say whatever it takes to retain power.

Trump’s lies violate democratic norms and are implications for political violence. They undermine core democratic institutions and threaten the legitimacy of the American government.

William Shakespeare suggested, in "The Merchant of Venice," that “truth will out,” but in the case of Trump’s lies, this may not always be true — his lies have become conservative truths.

Trump, with the help of the Republican Party, has put together a Cabinet rife with incompetence and a total lack of integrity.  Although they swear an oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution, they will champion Trump’s lies and take directives from the White House rather than federal law.

The one thing readers will find about the politics of fear and lies, is that the more someone gives into it, the worse it gets. The only solution will be a politics of courage and truth.
