John Goegel: Maggie Goodlander will help make this nation, world greater

To The Daily Sun,

“To those who have been given much, much is expected.” We are the most powerful and prosperous nation on Earth. Our generosity over the last century — sacrificing our blood and our treasure — to protect democracy is an example to all worldwide. We have much to be proud of, as our forebears renounced isolationism to confront the evils of three totalitarian states. When World War II ended we helped rebuild Europe and Japan. We are good people. The Republican Party would have us ignore that history and move this great country in the direction of an authoritarian state.

Hope is stronger than fear. Truth is stronger than falsehoods. Unity is stronger than division. Ukraine must prevail. Alliances such as NATO must be maintained and strengthened. Women’s reproductive rights must be supported totally. The freedom to worship God as we choose is a long established right. The innate dignity (imago dei) of all people, even immigrants seeking a better life, must be celebrated. The American people are a diverse group but we can work together for a common purpose — maintaining democracy and its many freedoms, here and throughout the world.

Our national security and the possible infringement of our freedoms as a democracy are central issues in the upcoming election. As a fellow veteran, I am proud to support the candidacy of Maggie Goodlander for the 2nd Congressional District of NH. She has a proven record of selfless service to this country. She will help make this nation, the envy of the world, greater.
